EXIBITION

Joran Rapa Manche presents “Stamford Hill” an outsiders observation of Europe’s largest Hasidic Jewish community: Stamford Hill of Hackney, London; an area referred to as “a square mile of piety”

The artist created the images whilst living within the heart of Stamford Hill intrigued by the traditional and private community and its people. Although initially drawn to the obviously visually striking differences of the denomination, his collection explored ideas of secrecy, tradition, togetherness and conformity.

The exhibition features 15 limited edition hand drawn ink illustrations transferred into black and white screen prints of various sizes, printed on Fabriano Tiepolo Imperial 290gsm paper.

Born in Malta, Rapa Manche moved to London in 2000 where he now lives and works. The artist says that he enjoys “details… the putting together of small markings, lines, hatchings, repetitions ”

The exhibition will be held at the BHVU Gallery in Stoke Newington, an area neighboring Stanford hill, also part of the London borough of Hackney. The exhibition will run from the 25th-31st October 2010 open from 12-6 pm daily, with the private viewing from 6pm-9pm on Friday the 29th.
